Next Harry Potter movie pushed back to July 2009
Thursday August 14 5:57 PM ET

The release date for the sixth Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," was pushed back on Thursday to July 2009 from its original slot in November 2008, movie studio Warner Bros. said.

The eight-month change in the opening date to July 17, 2009, is expected to disappoint millions of Harry Potter fans around the world who have already been waiting more than a year to watch the next big-screen installment in the international literary and film phenomenon.

Trailers for "Half-Blood Prince" began running last week in advance of the expected November movie release worldwide.

Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, said it had decided to make the change to bolster its release schedule for the lucrative summer moviegoing season -- a period that can account for as much as 40 percent of Hollywood's annual box office receipts.

Warner Bros. President Alan Horn said the studio was also still feeling repercussions from the three-month Hollywood screenwriters strike that ended in February but has "impacted the readiness of scripts for other films."

"We know the summer season is an ideal window for a family ... release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment," Horn said.

The studio said the change of date would not alter production plans for the final, two-part Potter movie adventure, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." The release date for part one is tentatively set for November 2010.

"Deathly Hallows," the seventh and last story from British author J.K. Rowling about the boy wizard and his friends at Hogwarts School, was published in July 2007. The series has sold an estimated 400 million copies, and the books have been translated into more than 60 languages.
.

Guys, I'm as gutted as I'm sure as all of you Zone HP fans are, but it can't be helped. Warner Bros has spoken. Stinks though doesn't it?

It's Harry Potter. It doesn't matter when they release it, it's gonna be number 1 in the box office anyways. Not to mention there's nothing wrong with releasing it in November, that's close to the holiday season, which is also the top time for people to see movies, so this just makes no sense to me.

I don't see why they just can't release it. Isn't it already completed for the most part?

Well, they can't release it if its only mostly finished. I mean, you can't expect them to release a parcial movie can you? I agree as well that it really doesn't matter when in the hell they release it, its fucken Harry Potter! Its gonna sell! So why don't they just hurry it up, release it and make some quick cash, who the hell knows. Oh well, I'll just go on with my life and try not to think about it until July or at least sometime that's remotely closer to the release date. It would
've been sweet if it was already out and I just found out, as i never even knew when Six was supposed to come into theaters in the first place. So its really not going to affect my life and i will simply wait patiently. Danniel Radcliff is pretty hot too. lol If that's who they're still having play Harry.

Yes, he's still playing Harry.

I was disappointed as well but it an't be helped. I actually thought it had to do with the murder of one of the cast members last summer. No, it wasn't one of the major cast.

Its going to be on July 15 now instead of July 17.

ok, the time for movie six is drawing closer, but, and this is a rumor, do you know what I heard about movie seven, that they are going to split book seven into two movies.

ok, now, if that is true, that is fucked up, just a little bit.

Post 17 by Daenerys Targaryen (Enjoying Life) on Friday, 24-Apr-2009 15:20:34

Yeah it is true. They are going to do that. The movie split in two might mean less jumping from part to part quickly and less parts from the book cut out that we want to see in the movie though.

omg, it's harry potter woo hoo! to be honest, I don't really care when it comes out, lol. The movies are getting progressingly worse and worse, lol. The last movie was just so horrible, I wasted money for nothing. But I'll just go see this one when it comes out and see what's its like. It's totally make sense for them to release it during the summer though, because that's when kids don't have school and they can congragate and go in huge groups to the theaters and watch the movie so they can sell more tickets. :D
